GREAT Books!

So I am totally one hundred percent obsessed with buying children's books. I always find a new one I want and that I NEED to have. I have found that ordering them from amazon is usually the cheapest. They sell their books way cheaper than Barnes and Nobel or any other local bookstore. I wanted to share some of the books I have recently bought to read at the beginning of the school year! They all have great messages and I am excited to create cute crafties for them or find some on pinterest, which I have found a few already!
This books has a great message and is a little bit of a surprise. It also has a really cute pledge in the back of it! It is more appropriate for grades 2 and above.
I love this book! It is about being yourself and being unique! The illustrations are great! It also would go great with a reading unit about courage!
I have already found some great activities and ideas to go along with this books on pinterest! Just type in the title and they will pull up. I can't wait to read this because I have a HUGE issue with tattling in my current class.
This one is just a classic!
We have a character education program so this book will be great when we teach "how to accept no."
This book is soo cute! I love to draw and paint so I had to add this book to my order. I plan on sharing it with our art teacher! I am off to watch all my juicy reality T.V. shows! I am off tomorrow so I plan on relaxing in peace! Glitter Words

Word Wall

One of my favorite bloggy friends, Jen is having a linky party to show off your word wall!! Click on her button to link up with her!
Here are pictures of my word wall. I use it a little differently then I think most people do. I put up a new set of words each month according to the month. I think of words the students might use during writers workshop that have to do with the month. For example: May I put up mother, flowers, spring, green, bugs, etc. I write the words on sentence strips and each month's words are the same color. My letters are on the back of note cards and I used stick on letters.
I have my word wall by the computers and my other writing resources!
Thanks Jen for the great linky party!! P.S. I found this GREAT new blog! She is dedicated to reviewing children's books! If you are as obsessed with books like me your should check it out!!

Freebie (End of the Year) instead of Fashion Friday

They both start F so I figured it was ok! I am finally getting to share one of many freebies for Camp Learned A Lot. This is something I do at the end of the year during the last week of school. I move all the tables and we have a tent and campfire. We do activities that surround camping! I will have a whole unit freebie for you in a couple of weeks.
The first freebie I wanted to share with you is one of my favorite activities. Before the students complete the activity we read the following book:
The book is very cute and gives a lot of great information about camping! They have an activity for each letter of the alphabet. When we are done reading I let the students complete a simlair activity about second grade. They write/illustrate something we have done throughout the year for each letter of the alphabet. We have a great time remembering all the fun things we have done and the students can take it home to keep as a reminder!
Click here for the freebie!! I hope some of your can use this in your classroom! I can't wait to share all my files for Camp Learned A Lot!! Sorry for the non-fashion post! I thought this was more fun! I am off to have a relaxing 3 day weekend!! Woohoo! Our last school day off is on Monday and then it is smooth sailing until the end of the year!! Glitter Words

Weather!!!

What a week of NOTHING!! I really haven't had any major behavior problems or anything hectic happen. I just have been totally unmotivated to get on the computer. I finally pulled it together to make this post. I will be sharing my freebie later this week. It will go with my Camp Learned A Lot unit I will be posting about in a few weeks. Camp Learned A Lot is what I do the last week of school and all the kids look forward to it. For the next couple of weeks we will be studying weather, the water cycle, and clouds! We talked about what a meteorologist is. The students wrote about whether or not they would want to be a meteorologist or not. This is a cute poster I made from Hope's unit.
Yesterday we talked about different weather tools and watched a short video on united streaming about how to measure weather. The kids were surprisingly into the video even though it was from like the 1980's!!!
Today we made wind vanes! The problem was it wasn't very windy! It was actually 92 degrees today in Kansas!!!
Here are the materials you will need to make a wind vane: 1.yogurt cup 2.beans or rocks 3.pencil 4.straw 5.paper plate 6.card stock 7.pin I think we are going to try them out again tomorrow!! I am crossing my fingers that it is a little more windy tomorrow! Happy Wednesday!! Glitter Words

The 3 F's

FASHION, FIELD TRIP, AND FINALLY!!! My hubby got home from being gone all week so I didn't get the chance to post my Fridays Fashion post, but here it is. This week I wanted to show you how to wear statement jewelry. Instead of showing you completed outfits I decided to just show you what colors work with different types of jewelry.
Lime green jewelry like this bracelet looks great with neutral and pale colors. I paired it with a soft pink and some lace. The lime green really stands out when it is paired with these colors.
This multicolored bracelet looks great with many different colors. When I am working with a piece of jewelry that has lots of colors in it I try to pair it with something of a totally different color. For example I paired this bracelet with navy blue.
Both of these necklaces are quite chunky, but are still very neutral. The colors aren't bright at all. I found that they stand out the most when I paired them with a fun print. They are the prefect accent for my bright safari blouse and navy key dress!
Last but not least is this GREAT peach chunky necklace. This is one of my favorite pieces. I paired it with an eyelet dress. It allows the necklace to be the center of attention. My biggest piece of advice with statement jewelry is to try new things. You never know if a necklace or bracelet will look good with something until you try it out! On to our amazing, but tiring Field Trip on Friday! We look the second graders to Science City in downtown Kansas City! We had a blast. I wanted to share with you something the kids got to make! It was a "soil" treat. They first put in white chocolate chips for the bottom layer of soil, then chocolate pudding for the subsoil, then crushed up Oreo s for the topsoil. They then "planted" a gummy carrot in their soil! They kids LOVED these! I think I am going to steal the idea for my classroom next year!
On to the FINALLY! I am FINALLY done with my Spring masters classes! I turned in my last assignment today! I won't start my summer classes until the end of May. To celebrate I will be posting a freebie sometime this week! Be on the look out for it! I hope everyone has a FABULOUS weekend! (I guess I should have called it the 4 F's!) Glitter Words

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly Linky Party

My favorite girl Holly is having her very first linky party!! I am really excited to be apart of it and show some Crisscross Applesauce support!

Here are some of my good pictures. I have to warn you that I am a pretty organized person minus a few small areas in my room! :)

This is the shelves where my kids keep some of their supplies since we have tables and they have NO room to put anything. The kids know Mrs. Cirrito will be upset if the supply person does not keep their colored shelf clean!

This is my classroom library. It wasn't too bad. Some of the books are looking a little crazy but for the most part it is pretty organized. The different color bins correspond to a colored dot on their name tags. The students know they can only get in that colored bin. I do it according to AR levels or Lexile levels. As the kids increase during the year I move them to different bins. Twice a month I check out new books from the library for my reading area. I was finding most of my kids weren't bring back books that were at their level so this is how I solved that problem!

On to the bad...

These are a lot of my math manipulatives. They aren't all in the same bins with labels, which is what I would like. I plan on working on this for next year since I will be moving rooms.

This is the top draw by my desk. It has all my office supplies just thrown in. It also is the home to my GREAT protein bars that I eat for lunch everyday!

Here comes the ugly...both of these pictures are of my closet. This is the one stop in my room that I literally just throw things in. I don't have to see it so it doesn't bother me that it is a mess.

Well you have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly of my classroom. If you would like to link up head on over to Holly's blog. We are going on a field trip tomorrow, which I am SUPER excited about!! I will have to share all the details!

Meatball Weather

We started our weather unit. We first read one of my favorite books:

The day before I decorated the room themed out from the book! Here are the pictures of the FOOD hanging from my ceiling.

PANCAKES!!

MEATBALLS!!

Yesterday we talked about precipitation and today we talked about weather words. We used the website: weatherwhizkid.com to look up the words!

All of these great activities are from Hope's great unit!

Tonight I am eating dinner with one of my best friends! She is also a teacher so we don't see each other very often because she teaches in another district! Happy Wednesday!

Clipboard Crafty and Weather!

I had seen this really cute picture on Pinterest for a cute bin for clipboards! I of course had to recreate it, but in a lady bug theme! My clipboards are currently in a white storage bin...GROSS! This will be way cuter!

This is the one from Pinterest! It looks liked she used a soft tub. Here is mine!

It is going to totally match my classroom theme!

This week we are starting our weather unit! I love teaching weather! It is probably one of my favorite science units. I will be using the following books during the unit:

I will also be using the famous Hope King's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Unit!

I am excited to decorate the room tomorrow with lots of BIG food! :)

We will also be going on a Field Trip this week to Science City. Most of our kids haven't been out of the town so for many of them it will be their first time down town. I am glad we are able to take them down there because I don't know if they will ever get the chance. I hope everyone has a had a GREAT Sunday! I wanted to leave you with a picture from one of the tornadoes in western Kansas. I pray for those families and communities that were affected from the horrific tornadoes that stretched across the Midwest Saturday.
