I love teaching math because it is so hands-on, engaging, and fun to use all the different manipulatives. I love to introduce subtraction with frogs hopping back on their logs and practice measuring body parts with partners for reinforcement. My kids get so excited for math!

You seem really relaxed for a girl who isn't sure what she is doing in a week and a half! Can you bottle it and sell it?

I follow your blog! I love to teach math because I grew up weak in math but since many of my instructional positions have been exclusive for math (i.e. tutoring, summer school) I have come to understand what it takes to teach math. I love the songs, poster, games, manipulatives (cheerios for arrays!) and other instructional strategies I have used to help make math achievement accessible to every student. I am a first year teacher this Fall and I am excited and anxious to dive into Math!

My favorite thing about teaching math is the fact that kiddos can use many different ways to solve their problems. When I was in school there was ONE way and that caused me to hate math! I'm loving math as a teacher now :)

I have two favorite things about math. One is how it can be so much fun with games and manipulatives. I like how my manipulatives can be school-type items like counters or it could be licorice to cut for fractions. The other is that I love that my kids do most of the work in building/learning the concepts and truly "own" the learning.

Currently I am finishing up a summer school extended program with Kindergarteners. The most favorite thing about teaching math to my Kindergarteners is learning that zero is also a number and without zero certain numbers could not be a number. Their eyes light up and their voices cheer in excitement when they discover they can do math with the most simplest of items in their natural environment.
This year I will be switching to Second Grade after teaching Kindergarten for four years. I hope to instill the same exciting parts of math in my second graders as I have in my previous students using what is in our natural environment to learn math among other techniques shared by bloggers like you, T2T, Pinterest, and MC2...
