It is Official!!

It is official friends....I WILL be teaching 2nd grade next year!! I am very excited because I had to switch grade levels last year. The down side it that I am going to have to move rooms because they will be having three 3rd grade classrooms so of course one of them gets my great BIG room! I think in our building there is only 4 people who are staying in their same position next year and I am one of them. Is this normal??? (I don't think so!!)

On to cuteness from the week so far!! We talked about verb tenses and made this Pinterest inspired craft!

The kids choose a verb and wrote it down in present, past, and future tense. Then they used each of these words in a sentence. They turned out GREAT! One of the girls told me "Mrs. Cirrito we did a good job with our verbs!" :)

We have also been talking about characterization with our story this week, As Brave as a Mountain Lion. I of course had to make an anchor chart!I also totally just realized I spelled conquered wrong! I hope the sub catches it tomorrow.

I realized I am not very good at drawing boys! Oh well!! My students will use the words they came up with today to make this little crafty tomorrow with my sub!

I wanted to put more orange strips on it but didn't get much time today to get it all done. They will understand how to make it though!

In writers workshop today we talked about "zooming" in on the most important party of a story. My kids really enjoyed the camera analogy and comparing a writer and a photographer! I plan on putting this chart in our writing area of the room.

I have to end on a happy note...Target currently has some AMAZING things in their dollar section. I wanted to share my favorite thing I found! It is notepad that is graph paper. It is perfect to put by my bed stand when I am up thinking about how I want to arrange my room for next year!! (I was totally doing that last night!) If you haven't hopped into Target lately I totally would!! I also got some really cute pots for organizers!

Common core training for second grade teachers out of the building tomorrow. Here is the problem....my teammate is moving to PreK next year so I will be alone at the training! Ugh!

I know how you feel about the changes next year. We had MAJOR restructuring last year with 2 schools closed. I was only one of 2 second grade teachers (out of 8) who got to stay in 2nd grade. Even though all the new teachers that were added to 2nd were veteran teachers, they were still new to 2nd. I was glad I was able to help so much. You will be awesome to help the new teachers to your grade level. Congrats on keeping your spot!

Great news Kelley !! I found out that I am staying in a straight Gr. 2 next year so I am very happy. Lots of changes in our building so I am very glad to be staying put (and hopefully in the same room). Good luck with training :)

Congrats Kelley! That would be so stressful to have to switch if you didn't want to. I love your ideas here, especially the camera!

I'm loving this post! I'm going to use two of your ideas to help prepare my kids for the upcoming common assessment - the characterization idea and the zooming in on important information. Thanks for the ideas!
