Text Feature Freebie

Next week we are going to learn about text features therefore I had to create some posters to help remind my students of all of the great text features out there! We are working on our unit about space, which has a lot of nonfiction stories. I figured this would be a great time to introduce text features!

I am planning on placing these on our reading strategies board, but I am also thinking about printing them front to back and putting them on a ring for my kids to put in their book bags. Then during Read-to-Self they can be looking for these types of text features.

This is our last week of the launching guide for the daily 5 and cafe. I am planning on taking some time next weekend to post about how it has gone and show LOTS of pictures! Hope everyone has a great week! (mine is filled with lots of meetings!)

Anchor Charts

My new obsession is anchor charts that I find on Pinterest! I thought I would share some of my favorites that I plan on doing this year or saving for next year.

I am planning on using this one the week of Valentine's Day to review what a good friend is and why it is important to treat each other with respect. (I think some of my friends forgot this during this past week so it is my job as the teacher to REMIND them!)

This one I am planning on making whenever I have the free time. We practice fluency everyday. I will have to post how we do that. I am seeing great improvements in some of my kids. One student went from reading 15 WPM to 83 WPM!!!I was super proud of her!

These two I will be making in our next writing unit. We will be working on the Lucy Calkins unit Small Moments. I started a little later than most of you (after winter break) so I am just now finishing the first unit. We will be having our Author's Celebration next week. I got a really cute children's chair that I want to paint and fix up all cute for my kids to sit in when it is their time to share. I will show you a picture when I get it all done.

Well I need to say thank you to Elisabeth at Twins, Teaching, and Tacos! She gave me the favorite follower award and sent me one of her units for free! She is super sweet and generous. If you have not checked her about please do!!!

Twins Teaching and Tacos

On to something craft my bff and I have been working on. We have some babies birthdays to go to tomorrow and I was in charge of making the little girls outfit. I ironed on the cute little cupcake on the front of the hoodie and then hand sewed an E on the back because her name is Emma. It turned out pretty cute!

Last but not least don't forget to enter in my giveaway! I will choose a winner Sunday evening.

Oh Sunday

Man I wish I had one more day. I just want to lay around all day tomorrow, but nope I will be up at 5:45 getting ready to go see my 23 little friends!! Well there are some exciting things going on in bloggy world!

First Hope King and Babbling Abby are having sales at their TpT. If you have not checked these ladies out you totally need to. I just bought Hope's Cloudy with a Chance Weather Unit and PSA Math Strategies Unit. I bought Abby's Inferencing Unit. I am really excited to use these ladies WONDERFUL units!

Ok so if you haven't been "TAGGED" well then just wait you will be soon! Holly was so sweet to tag me and I had fun tagging other bloggy friends. Beware it does take a while to make the post, but it is super fun reading everyone's responses to your questions. I have learned more about my bloggy friends within the past two days then the last several months!

My master classes are in full swing. I feel like I don't have time to create any great freebies anymore for my blog. I will try to get one posted this week sometime. We are starting some exciting new units. One is our Kansas Unit that goes along with Kansas Day. Yes our state is so AMAZING that we have a WHOLE day to celebrate it. (right Leanne!!) The kids love learning about the state and experiencing new things. I will post some pictures of the activities we do during the week.

Last but not least I want to ask one question and share something exciting....

1. I am keeping to my New Years Resolution to stay healthy....today the girls and I walked 5 miles! And I think we decided to walk again tomorrow. I will let you know how totally sore I am going to be on Tuesday!!! :)

2. My question for my bloggy friends....What does your reading block look like? Do you use guided reading or a basal? Does everyone in your building do the same thing or is everyone on different pages? I am considering changing things up a little in my reading block, but I want to get some new fresh ideas first!

P.S. I am almost to 200 followers and I think a giveaway is in order! I am so close, spread the word and help me reach 200! Have a great rest of your Sunday!!

Reading Freebies!

Hello everyone! I wanted to share something I made for my co-workers. They wanted me to create reading strategy posters for them to put on their board instead of writing them out! I totally used really super cute clip art from Kpmdoodles. If you have not checked out her super cute clip art you should! My co-worker laminated and then put magnets on the back of her posters.

I have been reading on everyone's blog that they have so much to get done...I am definitely on that bandwagon! I feel like I can't ever get anything done and I am always running around like crazy this time of year! I guess that is why we have a break soon, to finally RELAX! Well, I am off to work on some school work for my masters class before Tori and Dean is on! Have a great Wednesday!
